We started this little group with two people: Kyle and I. You can look at the roster page to see how the club has grown. This is with no advertising, people just show up. It's strange, I knew we would gain people through general interest but I didn't really understand how this snowballs. We had 3-4 people for a long, long time. Growth was a trickle. Suddenly every week it seems like a new person shows up. This is not a bad thing; it's just surprising.
The hard part is learning how to deal with that growth. When you get one new person every few months, it is easy to get them up to speed. When it's 4 new people a month, things get tricky in terms of keeping abreast of training. I'm starting to rely on the more experienced club members to work as secondary instructors, or at the very least extra eyes and ears to watch for issues and correct them as they see fit. Additional issues come with equipment availability, as this cost is either on the club (me) or the new member. This was also easier with less new inductees, but I've actually had to close openings for new members due to lack of equipment at this point. This is an issue that will have to be dealt with sooner rather than later.
